I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays!
We had a great time here, with my grandparents coming into town and orchestrating a surprise visit from my parents, who live in Virginia so it’s been over a year since I’ve seen them and they hadn’t met Squish yet. I won’t do this very often because I’m eh about sharing pictures of my kids, but here are some snapshots from my holiday weekend.
One of my favorite Christmas presents was my customized personal library stamp! I also got “check out” cards so that I can write down who borrows what and when because I’m awful at keeping that straight in my head, ha.
2016 was actually a really great year for us. We got pregnant with our little girl, I kept up with my goal to run throughout my pregnancy (almost made it to 30 weeks before my doctor told me I needed to start taking it easy), we vacationed at Dauphin Island, Alabama, and spent eight amazing days exploring the countryside of the Republic of Ireland. I also started this blog, which has done much better than I ever anticipated, and looking back at the year, I feel like I have learned so much about myself. I’m another year older, but I feel great and I feel like I’m really starting to understand myself, my values, and my priorities. I’m going to use this to shape 2017 into an even better year than 2016!
Now reading challenge wise. I did much better than I expected, but it’s already clear I won’t finish it. And I think I’m okay with that. I read a lot of books that I don’t typically read and I think that’s part of what helped me understand who I am. Books are magic like that, you know. My 2017 reading challenge is one I’m really excited for! It’s also very simple. I will read at least one, but it can be more than one, book from a new author every month.
Here is the link for the challenge I’m doing, and here is the list of books coming out from debut authors that I’m going to refer to. I’m not going to pick any ahead of time like I did this year but I will go on a month by month basis. I realize that there isn’t any debut authors for December…yet. There are still several TBA books coming out and I have faith that one of them will premiere in the last month of the year. If not, I will address that when I get to December.
If you’re looking to do a reading challenge but not sure where to start, I found mine here. There were several that competed for my attention, but ultimately the Debut Authors won. As an aspiring author, I have a soft spot for new ones trying to get their book babies out there in the world.
This is going to be my last post for 2016, which is a little sad! However, I’m very excited to see where this blog takes me in 2017 and to see how I grow as a reader. Thank you so much for reading and following me if you do, and if you’re a visitor-thank you as well! The foot traffic my blog sees really makes me feel like the things I say and the feelings I have about the literary world actually have weight to them. You guys are the best!
Happy Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Reading!
